I was approached by Avenue Art & Company to come up with a upbeat bright piece based on the Menominee Indians historic landmark Old Council Tree. The tree was where tribesmen held councils prior to the 1830's and eventually was cut down in the 1880's. The project was for the new ThedaCare Physicians Clinic in Wisconsin. I was given basic information about the new construction and I was told that the piece will be installed along with art by a glass artist.
I envisioned the focus on the tree with life all around. I tried to play with the sense of depth allowing the eyes to be drawn to the tree as the grass and butterflies go out of focus.
